The Sound of Flute #5
Teater Salihara | Saturday, July 07, 2012, 08:00 PM
Tickets Rp50,000 | Students Rp25,000
Flutist Andika Chandra will play six contemporary compositions by M. Chozin Mukti, Matius Shan Boone, Singgih Sanjaya, Paul Hindemith, Yii Kah Hoe, and Kee Yong Chong. These works were selected to demonstrate the power of the flute as a musical instrument. It is not merely an instrument to accompany orchestra, but it can be performed on its own with a character of sound that can be infinitely explored. In this performance the composition “Angin Timur” by Matius Shan Boone will be debuted at Komunitas Salihara. Also, “Rawa-rawa” by M. Chozin Mukti and “Candi Ayu Candik Ala” by Singgih Sanjaya, previously debuted in Yogyakarta, will be played.
Andika Chandra studied music at the Music High School (SMM) Yogyakarta and the Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) Yogyakarta. She has also taken master classes with Georgia Browne (Australia), Anton Isselhardt (Germany), and Yudianto Hinupurwadi (Indonesia). Besides being active in a number of symphony orchestras, Andika also played in the Yogyakarta Contemporary Music Festival throughout 2007—2010. In 2010 together with S.S. Production she made an album of flute solos with contemporary pianist Yuty Lauda.
