This concert is prepared especially for the opening nights of the 4th Salihara Festival. He has interweaved drumset with an orchestra ensemble, something of a rare combination as drum percussion is neither a harmonic or melodic musical instrument, unlike the piano, flute, guitar or french horn. However, this attempt actually leads to a unique musical atmosphere, providing the audience with a new experience in enjoying music, combining both classical and contemporary music. He tries to capture things that are fleeting in our lives but are nevertheless important.
This concert is divided into two parts. The first, “String Quartet & 3 Guitars” will be performed in Galeri Salihara. It contains Aksan's newest music pieces, in addition to excerpts from his music written for several domestic films, such as Minggu Pagi di Victoria Park (Sunday Morning in Victoria Park), Rayya, and Sang Penari (The Dancer). The second part, “Drums Concerto: Glimpse” will be staged in Teater Salihara, and will contain drum concertos in four parts.
The musician, Aksan Sjuman was trained in piano, before finally moving on to drums, his primary instrument. He was a member of the band, Dewa 19, before founding groups, Wong Acid and Potret. In addition to pop music performances, he has appeared on many jazz show stages, both domestically and abroad. Aksan has released his solo album, in collaboration with international jazz musicians Joe Rosenberg, Peter Scheer, and Masako Hamamura, collectively known as Quartet East. Most recently, he recorded music for his alternative jazz group, “Aksan Sjuman & the Committee of the Fest.” He is founder of jazz school, Ponpin School of Music.
