Ariani Darmawan

Ariani Darmawan is an artist who was born in Bandung, West Java, 18 March 1977. After completing her studies at the Department of Architecture, Parahyangan Catholic University, Bandung, she  continued her education at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, U.S.A. As an artist, she has worked on various art projects, from short films, installation, and theater. Most of her works are collaborative works. Since 2004, she has been involved with an artist-initiative group, VideoBabes, together with Prilla Tania and Rani Ravenina. Her most important films are Anak Naga Beranak Naga (Dragon Begets Dragon, 2005) and Sugiharti Halim (2008) that was part of the 9808 omnibus (together with 10 other film makers). Anak Naga Beranak Naga brought her to a number of international festivals, amongst them Goteburg Art Festival, Sweden (2006) and Singapore International Film Festival, Singapore (2008). Meanwhile, Sugiharti Halim went to Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival, France (2008) and the Rotterdam International Film Festival, the Netherlands (2009), in addition to winning Best Film and Audience Favorite awards at the 2008 Konfiden Short Film Festival.
