Maria Indria Sari was born in Yogyakarta, on 4 September 1976. She is a painter and artistic director who graduated from the Faculty of Recorded Media, Yogyakarta Art Institute. As a child, she won various painting competition awards, amongst them Shankar's International Children's Competition, New Delhi, India (1989) and Selected Work at the ASEAN Painting Competition, Jakarta (1990). She has participated in many group exhibitions with various artists since 2006. This year, she participated in the art exhibition, “Membatalkan Keperempuanan” (lit. Canceling Femininity), Sangkring Art Project, Yogyakarta. Last year, she participated in various international exhibitions, amongst others “Indonesia's Crouching Tigers and Hidden Dragons”, ArtSpace Galleries, Mayfair, London, and a group exhibition with Singaporean artists in “Talking Textile”, OneEast Artspace, Singapore, and “Closing the Gap: Indonesian Contemporary Art”, MIFA (Melbourne International Fine Art), Melbourne, Australia. In 2010, she participated in “Indonesian Art Now: The Strategies of Being”, ART|JOG|10, Taman Budaya Yogyakarta, and a number of other exhibitions in Yogyakarta and Jakarta.
