Setu Legi is an artist who graduated from Visual Design Communication, Yogyakarta Art Institute. Born in Yogyakarta, 4 January 1971, he is founder and member of the arts and culture community, Taring Padi (lit. Rice Fang, 1998). His works emphasize critic upon current socio-political conditions in Indonesia. Most recently, he has begun to question great religious confrontation and fundamentalism standing tall over a chaotic environmental condition, such as through the installation Kepada Yang Mulia (lit. To His Majesty) at the 11th Jogja Biennial (2011). He has given a number of solo exhibitions, amongst them Are You Ready, Kedai Kebun Forum, Yogyakarta (2008) and Social Realities, Pfortnerhaus, Dresden, Germany (2005), in addition to a number of group exhibitions in Yogyakarta, Jakarta, and Berlin. Throughout the first decade of the 21st century, Setu participated in a number of artist's residency programs in Berlin and Dresden in Germany (2011, 2005), Amsterdam, the Netherlands (2003), and Adelaide, Australia (2002). He has also participated in a number of workshops, such as those with Cyclown Circus, Nadin Reschke, Berliner Handpresse, and Felicitas Hoppe from Germany.
