New sculpture art is a trend which emerged as an expansion of the conventions of modern sculpture. The trend began to appear in exhibition spaces in the 1990s, then spread and developed until today. New sculpture art has undeniably been influenced by media and the vast amount and speed of information. But it was also born out of continuous explorations and the results of the creativity of the sculptors themselves.
New sculpture art still shows up in joint exhibitions next to paintings, installations, objects and new media. It is swept along in the mainstream discourse which prevails over various trends in visual arts in one phenomenon: Contemporary Art. Thus, new sculpture art is also usually claimed to be contemporary sculpture. It is marked by various experiments with media, extended processing of space, a variety of techniques, an affinity to pop culture, and recycling of assorted products both traditional as well as from the industrialized world.
This exhibition is a kind of study or critique on the trend of new sculpture art. The curator has selected a number of artists whose works demonstrate this trend, besides those who have been exploring in this realm for awhile.
This exhibition will also include a discussion of the exhibited works.
