I Gusti Nyoman Lempad (1862-1978) was a painter, sculptor, and traditional architect (undagi) who built numerous houses and temples in Bali. His works burst with boundless imagination, inspired by folklores and myths that richly exist in Balinese society. Lempad is considered part of early-period Balinese artists whose works demonstrate a level of Western inspiration. This exhibition presents a number of Lempad’s drawings and sculptures borrowed from museums and private collections in Bali and Jakarta.
Visitors will also be able to view documentary videos and photos elaborating on the life and work of Lempad, a figure who will always be remembered as a legend of Balinese traditional art.
